The perpetually futile battle of Brazil vs WhatsApp

Brazil has a long history of trying to block the most popular chat app in the country. Just what are the government playing at? And as WhatsApp is now fully encrypted, what is the point of trying to harvest data from it, anyway? WhatsApp couldn't pass over any chat information, even if they wanted to.

Some think it's just tit-for-tat as WhatsApp's owner, Facebook, have previously refused to cooperate with the Brazilian police force.
